What is Mute on WhatsApp
WhatsApp has two types of Mute Function:
Hide notifications for individuals or group chat and Mute for status. We will guide you through both and their differences.
What happens when you hide WhatsApp chat notifications
By default, WhatsApp sends a push notification with an alert sound every time you receive a message from an individual or a group chat. However, when you mute someone, WhatsApp will mute notifications for subsequent messages received in the chat.
Let’s say you mute your cousin, Simon, who sends you constant and offensive messages and memes on WhatsApp. Simon can still send you messages, contact you via voice or video call, and see your status updates. The only thing that has changed is that WhatsApp will not notify you in real time; you will only see Simon’s messages when you open the app.

What happens when you hide your status on WhatsApp
When you press that mute button on a status update, WhatsApp will not push further updates from that particular contact to Recent update lined up. You will still be able to see the muted status, but you will have to scroll all the way down to the Mute Updates section in the status tab.
Muted conversations are not 100% effective
Mute individual chats will only mute messages, not calls. If a muted contact calls you on WhatsApp, your phone will ring and you’ll get a notification. For muted group chats, you’ll get a notification when a participant mentions you or sends a reply to your message(s).
Mute chat vs Mute Status
“Hide chat notifications” and “Mute status updates” are two completely different features and should not be confused with the other. It should also be recalled that they are mutually exclusive; Mute a contact’s chat will not mute their status update. Also won’t mute a contact’s status update message notifications.

Mute is discreet

Difference between Mute and Block on WhatsApp
Mute someone on WhatsApp is like muting your TV volume. All components of the TV will remain functional except for the speakers. You can still watch content, switch channels, and do other things, but won’t be distracted by the noise. On the other hand, blocking a WhatsApp contact is like turning off the TV. That will turn off all components of the TV.
Mute vs. Block: For individual or individual chats
When you block a contact (or an unknown number) on WhatsApp, their texts and voice messages are not sent to you. They also cannot contact you via voice or video call. That’s because, like turning off the TV, you’ve turned off all the points of direct communication with that person.

Mute vs. Block: For Group Chats
While you can mute both individual and group chats on WhatsApp, you can only block individual chats. Quitting a group is the closest alternative to blocking a group.
Mute Disturb
In a nutshell, muting WhatsApp chats only affects the delivery of text notifications. You can consider it as Do Not Disturb feature for WhatsApp. It turns off all alerts for individual or group chats for a certain period of time. And that’s about it.
There is no limit to the number of chats or groups that you can mute on WhatsApp. However, if you feel the need to mute many chats or everyone on your chat list (which is stressful), disabling WhatsApp notifications in your device settings is a solution. easier replacement.
