Google Maps location history lets you see all the places you’ve been with your phone. It records the locations you go to, stores them in its database and allows you to view it wherever and whenever you want.
This database of places you’ve been to is accessible from most devices, including your desktop, iPhone, and Android devices. Basically, all you need to do is go to the Google Maps app on your device and you can see your Google location history on the map.

Enable/Disable Google Maps Location History
You must ensure that this feature is enabled in your account before you can use it. It can be turned on and off on all three types of devices shown below.
Enable/Disable Desktop Location History
If you are using a desktop computer and you want to enable or disable Google location history, you really don’t need to install any app to do it. You can complete the task from any web browser on your computer.
- Open a new tab in your browser and go to Google map website. Sign in to your Google account if you’re not already signed in.
- Click on the three horizontal lines in the top left corner of the screen and a new menu will appear.

- Option Your data in Maps from this new menu.

- On the following screen, click the option below Location History.

- Now you can turn Location History switch to ABOVE and TURN OFF.

Enable/Disable Location History on Android
If you’re using an Android device, you’ll need to install the Google Maps app on your phone first. It comes pre-loaded on most phones, and you’ll find it in your app drawer, if it’s not already on your home screen.
- Launch Google map app on your phone.
- Tap your profile icon in the top right corner.

- From the newly opened menu, select the option that says Setting. It will open Maps’ settings.

- Choose Personal content on the following screen.

- Scroll down until you see Location settings section. Here you will find an option that says Location History is on. Click on it to open it.

- You should now see a toggle on the screen that allows you to enable and disable the Google location history feature on your Android device.

Enable/Disable Location History on iPhone
iPhone users also need the Google Maps app to enable and use the location history feature of Google Maps. After you download apps from the App Store, here’s how you manage Google’s location history settings on your iPhone.
- Open Google map app on your iPhone.
- Tap your profile icon in the top right corner of the screen and select the option that says Setting.

- Scroll down on the following screen and tap Personal content right to buy.

- Click Location History Settings on the screen afterwards.

- Use the toggle button next to it Location History to turn feature ABOVE or TURN OFF.

View Google Location History On Map
Once you’ve enabled the feature and it has recorded some of the places you’ve been, you can then view your Google Maps location history on any of your devices.
While your Android and iPhone shouldn’t have any trouble showing you your Maps timeline, the timeline actually looks better on desktop and you should access it from your phone. your own if possible.
Access Your Location History On Desktop
Again, if you’re using a desktop computer, you don’t need apps or software to access your location history. You can view it on the official Google Maps website.
- Launch a new tab in your browser and open Google map website.
- Click on the three horizontal lines in the top left corner of the screen and select Your location.

- There will be four tabs on the following screen. Click on the tab that says Visited and it will open.

- You should now see a list of all the places you visited when the location history feature was on. It will also tell you the date you visited a place. You can click on a location to open it in Maps.

- If you want to see your location history in a more interactive and fun way, you can visit Google Maps timeline page. It displays the places you have visited on the map by date.
View your location history on Android
On your Android device, you can use the Google Maps app to access your location history.
- Launch Google map application.
- Tap your profile icon at the top and select Your timeline.

- Knock on Today at the top and select the date you want to see the history.

- Knock on Location, Citiesor World to see your visited places on the map.

View Google Maps Location History on iPhone
You can use the Google Maps app on your iPhone to view your location history.
- Open Map application.
- Tap your profile icon at the top and select Your timeline.

- Tap the calendar icon at the top and select a date to view your history.

- It will show your location history.
Share your Google Maps Location
Google Maps is a lifesaver for many people because it keeps you from getting lost and shows you directions where you should go. One of its features allows you to share your location with near and dear ones.
If you’re traveling or going somewhere far away and you want your family to be able to track where you are, you can share your real-time location using the app.
- Launch the app on your mobile device.
- Tap your profile icon and select Share location.

- Choose how long you want to share your location. Then, select the contact to share the location with and tap Repost.
