How to remove individual pages from a PDF file

Did you just download a PDF file that contains multiple pages of blank or extra content? You may want to remove them. But how?

Surprisingly, removing individual pages from a PDF is not that complicated. So below, we are going to show you some convenient methods to remove pages from a PDF file on any desktop or mobile device.

Use Edge, Chrome, or Firefox (PC)

The easiest way to remove individual pages from a PDF file on your PC doesn’t involve using a web browser. This process includes printing the content to a new PDF file and excluding the page or pages you don’t want. It works the same on Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.

Start by dragging and dropping the PDF file into your web browser to start previewing. Then choose Print and specify the page range. Make sure to ignore the page or pages that you want to delete.

For example, if you want to delete pages 6, 7, 9, and 10 in a 13-page document, type 1-5, 8, 11-13 enter Pages field. Then set the printer to Microsoft Print to PDF or Save as PDF and choose Print or Save.

PDF X is a free PDF reader and editor that you can download from the Microsoft Store. If you don’t like using your web browser to interact with PDF files, you can use PDF X instead to print the content to new files without any pages you don’t want.

While viewing a PDF file in PDF X, select Print on the application toolbar. Then choose Microsoft Print to PDF (or any other PDF related printer) as the printer, specify the pages you want to print and select Print button.

Use the Preview app (Mac)

The Mac’s native Preview app makes deleting individual pages from PDF files incredibly convenient.

Just start by opening the PDF in Preview. Then select a page that you want to remove from the sidebar and follow it by selecting Edit > Delete to get rid of it. You can also select multiple pages in the sidebar while holding down Request and delete them simultaneously.

To save the changes, select File > Save. If you want to keep the current copy, press and hold Right to buy key and choose File > Save as to save the content to a new file.

In addition to deleting PDF pages, you can also use the Preview application to add pages to documents, annotate files, etc. Learn how Get the most out of Preview on Mac.

Use the Files app (iPhone and iPad)

If you have an iPhone or iPad, you can use the built-in Files app to remove selected pages from a PDF document.

Start by tapping the PDF in the Files app to start previewing. Then tap Repost icon and select Print. Follow that by unchecking the pages you want to delete from the preview area to the bottom of the screen.

Next, make a pinch out gesture on the page thumbnail page to enter another preview screen. Finally, tap Repost icon again and press Save to File to save the contents of the modified PDF file to any location in the Files app.

Use Google PDF Viewer (Android)

On Android, you can use the default Google PDF Viewer to remove pages from a PDF document. While viewing a file, tap the three-dot icon at the top right of the screen and select Print. Then uncheck the boxes below the pages you want to delete, set the printer to Save as PDFand click Save Icon.

Note: The instructions and button locations above may vary between Android device models and system software versions.

Using Adobe Acrobat (Desktop and Mobile)

If you have the paid version of Adobe Acrobat installed on your desktop or mobile device, you can use it to quickly remove any page from a PDF.

Adobe Acrobat – Desktop

Open PDF in Adobe Acrobat, switch to Tools and choose Organize pages right to buy. Follow that by choosing Garbage while hovering over the pages you want to delete.

Then you can choose File > Save to save changes to the same file, or File > Save as to make a new copy of the modified document.

Adobe Acrobat – Mobile

Open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat. Then, select the ellipsis icon at the top right of the screen. On the displayed toolkit, select Organize pages.

Next, highlight the pages you want to delete and tap Garbage Icon. Finally, touch Accomplished to save your changes.

Using Online PDF Tools (Desktop and Mobile)

If you’re in a hurry and don’t have time to mess around with menus, toggle buttons, and print options, you can use an online PDF tool to remove pages from a PDF document.

Smallpdf, for example, allows you to upload and delete pages with its Delete PDF Pages tool. You can then download the modified PDF to local storage. Other tools like Sejda and PDF2GO also works the same.

However, almost every online tool has limitations that prevent you from uploading or processing a lot of files unless you upgrade to a paid plan. Also, it’s best to avoid uploading PDFs with sensitive information online.

Light and clutter-free PDFs

Removing unwanted pages from PDF files reduces clutter and improves readability. But unless you’ve paid for a dedicated PDF editor like Adobe Acrobat, sticking to the native methods listed above should work fine.
