How to import fonts into Procreate

Procreate for iOS has many features to create amazing works of art, rivaling some of the best graphics editors out there. A useful feature for the artist in Procreate is the ability to use fonts. It can be the perfect tool for creating social media posts, logos, and more.

Procreate by default comes with a lot of fonts that you can use in your work, but you may want to use your own custom fonts or some downloaded from the internet.

Importing fonts into Procreate is really easy, you just need the file for the font you want to use on your iPad. In this article, we’ll show you how to download new fonts on your iPad and use them in Procreate for your art projects.

Download Fonts to iPad

Before you can use a new font in Procreate, you’ll first need to have the files for the font on your iPad. This will be an .otf or .ttf file. In the steps below, we will show you how to download these files and use them.

  1. Find a website where you want to download the font. This could be a free site like 1001freefonts.com or a premium font you purchased. After clicking the font download link, you will see a blue arrow to the right of the browser address bar showing the download progress.
  1. Once the file has been downloaded, tap this blue arrow and tap the downloaded file. You will open Files application. Or, you can go to the Files app yourself and tap Download folder.
  1. The font file will probably be a .zip , tap it to extract. In this unzipped file you will see .otf file or .ttf or both.

Now that you have your font file, you can import it into Procreate and use it.

How to install fonts in Procreate

You can now open Procreate for the project where you want to use your fonts. Then follow these steps to import your font.

  1. In your open project in Procreate, tap wrench icon in the top left corner to open Work menu.
  1. Under add tab, touch Add text.
  1. A text box will pop up with some sample text. Double-click it to bring up text editing options.
  1. Tap the font name in the top right corner of these options and a larger text options box will open.
  1. Knock on Font input at the top left.
  1. Your Files the app will open and you can locate your font files from here. Click .otf or .ttf file to import it.
  1. Once the font has been imported, you can scroll down the list of fonts and find the name of the font to use. Click it to use it with your text.

You can now use your newly imported fonts in Procreate as you want, or import more fonts.

How to use your fonts in Procreate

If you haven’t used the text feature in Procreate, you may be wondering how to use your imported fonts with the program’s text editor. There are many options there to edit your text using your imported font.

If your font has multiple styles, you can choose from them in Style box. This can be italic or bold.

Under Design , there are several different aspects of your text that you can change. You can change the size of the font by using the slider to make it larger or smaller. The Kerning optionally change the space between each character.

Follow change the spacing between lines and the space between separate words. Leading can change the vertical space between lines of words. The Baseline optionally change the position of the lines on which the text lies. Final, opaqueness change the visibility of the text. You can make your text more opaque using this.

Then there are Properties section. Here you can change the paragraph style, make the text underline, outline, or vertical, and change the capitalization.
