Thankfully, you’re not stuck with just the default fonts already in Adobe Premiere Pro. You can use any font available to download and install on your computer.
Adobe Premiere pulls pre-installed fonts from your computer. We’ll show you how to install fonts in Adobe Premiere and use them in your videos in this tutorial.

Adding fonts to Adobe Premiere Pro
To add fonts to Premiere, you just need to install them on your computer. You can download the font for free online or have a custom font for you that you can download. Here’s how to install them once you’ve downloaded them.
- Open .zip file using a program like 7zip. Inside there should be a .ttf or .otf font file.
- Extract the .ttf or .otf file somewhere you will remember it and click on it to open it.
- You will see an example of the font in a new window. In the top left corner, select Setting button.
- Once installed, you can close the window.
Font settings before Premiere is opening. If Premiere was already open when you installed a new font, you may have to restart Premiere for it to detect the new font.
Adding New Fonts Through Adobe Fonts
Another way to quickly add fonts for use in Premiere projects is to download them through Adobe Fonts, formerly known as Typekit. This is a feature you can use in Creative Cloud apps, and you can use your downloaded fonts across all Adobe apps.
- Open Adobe Creative Cloud software and go to Marketable securities.
- Option Font from the top menu bar.
- Browse to find the font you want to use. You will be taken to the Adobe Fonts website.
- Click the font you want to download.
- To the right of the font name you can click Enable font slider to add it to Creative Cloud. It will now be available in Adobe Premiere.
- If the font has multiple styles, you can scroll down and activate only the styles you want to use.
You can view your downloaded fonts in Creative Cloud by going to Application in the top menu bar and then Manage Fonts in the sidebar. After you open Premiere, you can use your new fonts using the methods outlined below.
Using New Fonts in Adobe Premiere Pro
Now that you have downloaded the new font, you can open Adobe Premiere to use it in your project. Here’s how to use it in a few different ways.
- When using Legacy title you can choose Font Family drop down and select the new font you just installed.
- While in use Graphics needed dashboard sampleenter Effect control dashboard. Open Letter drop down, then Source text drop-down menu. Click the box directly below to change the font.
- If you use Typing toolyou can follow step 2 in Effect control dashboard.
Your newly installed font will appear in the drop-down selection when using text. If you can’t find it, try entering the name of the font in the box and selecting it that way.
Why Are My Fonts Not Showing in Adobe Premiere Pro?
If you’re having trouble adding new fonts to Premiere, there are a few things you can do to resolve the issue. If your font doesn’t show up in the font selection drop-down box, even after you search for it, try some of these steps to fix it.
- Make sure you have the correct font installed. You can see if a font is installed by opening the source .ttf file. Click Setting in the upper left corner. If you get an error message that the font is already installed, try another fix. You can also choose to replace installed fonts and reinstall them.
- Restart Adobe Premiere. Make sure to save, then go to File > Exit. Then reopen Premiere and your video project.
- Restart your computer. If Premiere still won’t select the new font, restarting your computer may allow it to do so.
These fixes will allow Premiere to recognize your newly installed font so you can use it in your project.
